Six hundred rounds of the ammo AR-15 owners need to have a really good time at the range! Winchester 5.56x45 M855 is loaded at the same factory which produces ammo for the U.S. Armed Forces, so it’s up to whichever application you might have in mind for it.
This cartridge’s bullet will attract a magnet. That’s because the 62 grain FMJ’s core possesses a solid steel penetrator tip, a feature which ensures clean penetration through 1/8” thick sheet metal at ranges up to approximately 650 yards. The bullet’s added heft gives it greater long-range accuracy (for best results use a 1:9 or 1:8 twist barrel, although you can certainly get away with a 1:7 twist).
This ammo’s brass cases are in mint condition, even if they are discolored. The grayness you see is simply the result of the heat-treatment procedure which fortifies brass. Non-corrosive Boxer-primed 5.56x45 ammo like this is just what you want for handloading projects!
